Project Summary

Gas Sensing Technology Inc (aka WellDog) has developed a chemical sensing field instrument for use at the surface and downhole.  This instrument includes a Raman spectrometer as part of the standard system that is typically used to monitor reservoir gases dissolved in the fluid, such as CO2 and CH4. Raman spectroscopy is extremely sensitive to fluorescence. Therefore, it is proposed this tool could be used both for the analysis of dissolved gases and for fluorescent compound detection that is useful for GHG plume tracking and fluid movement monitoring. The project will assess the suitability of this technology as a fluorescent dye tracer analytical instrument. It seeks to confirm as well  that selected tracers are operationally viable.It is proposed that WellDog first performs simple experiments with typical dye tracers such as Rhodamine G to provide an indication of the Level of Detection (LOD) and potential in-situ reactions before proceeding further with the concept. The workplan includes selection of several dyes, assess influence of typical groundwater on their chemistry, and perform core flooding with Precipice sandstone core.
