Advanced Geophysical Data  Analysis at Harvey-1:  Storage Site Characterisation and Stability Assessment - Final Report

Drilling of the Harvey-1 Data Well has provided several geophysical data sets, including log data and zero-offset vertical seismic profiling (ZVSP) data.  In addition, a set of 2D seismic lines was acquired in 2011, with basic image processing performed by a contractor.  The main goal project was to apply a range of advanced data analysis techniques, developed by (or available to) WA:ERA researchers, to the geophysical datasets acquired at the Harvey-1 data well and the recently acquired 2D seismic data, in order to extract higher value from the data, reduce risk in the SW Hub CCS project through improved storage site characterisation, and guide optimal acquisition and processing parameters for future geophysical surveys.

As a part of this project the research team selectively reprocessed 2D data, using such techniques as pre-stack time and depth migration, CRS stack, high-resolution velocity analysis, etc. Vertical seismic profiling data was processed and used for estimation of both elastic parameters and seismic attenuation. Log data and drilling reports were carefully analysed in order to estimate parameters of the stress filed.

Results of the research were timely communicated between the researchers involved into the project, parallel projects and WA DMP. They were also presented on planned SH Hub decision workshops and also ANLEC R&D Science Day held as a part of CCS Week in October 2012 at Perth.

Recommendation on optimum 3D seismic acquisition parameters were provided to WA DMP.
